NUS Computing

DEAN’S
MESSAGE_

We celebrate 50 years of computing education this year – a truly significant milestone marking an incredible odyssey for NUS School of Computing (SoC). This anniversary is not just a number; it represents our strong legacy of innovation and commitment to our vision and goals.

It has been a transformative journey, beginning with the Computer Science department at the then Nanyang University in 1975. The mission then was to educate and train IT talents to support Singapore’s industrialization aspirations. We have not lost sight of our raison d'être and today, SoC remains the largest educator of IT professionals for our nation.

As we continue to shape the pathway of computing education, SoC will strive to remain innovative in the forefront of education and research. We hope to empower our students with skills and knowledge so that they are well equipped to meet the demands of an ever-evolving digital future. We also hope our students will harness these skill sets well to make a positive impact within our society.

We owe our gratitude to the countless individuals who have contributed to our success – our donors and industry partners, and mostly our dedicated SoC family of students, staff and alumni. Your contribution has been instrumental to our growth and success. I am certain our enduring spirit will live on and look forward to your unwavering support as we embrace challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the next 50 years.
